Why does no one compose in the old styles anymore?

I feel that since about the 1950s music has gone underground. By "old styles" I don't mean clical, romantic, or any other style like that. I just mean the style of intense creativity, beauty, expression, and innovation. It has died. Is it shunned in today's society? I unfortunately feel that if a composer in today's world wrote something that sounded 150 years old it would be rejected by the public. But if the music we consider to be the greatest comes from the past, why would we compose in odd, atonal styles? I hope i got my point across - I'm just looking for opinions on what has happened to music in the last 60-70 years.
