In Eternal Sonata, Can Someone PLEASE Explain The Old Woman and the Cello Tree?

To this day I still have no cle what was up with that woman. Or her tree for that matter. I've tried looking up it but no one's asked about it so I felt a bit lost >.> Any help would be lovely!
